The Role:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Commercial Operations, the Director of Channel Excellence will play a critical leadership role within the commercial organization. This position is responsible for driving success, innovation and differentiation for Gilead through the development and execution of channel strategy for our complete portfolio of medicines. As a people leader, the Director of Channel Excellence will oversee the trade relations and supply chain function.

This position involves selecting and engaging with external channel partners, as well as working with other members of the commercial organization including Senior Commercial Leadership, Patient Support Programs, Marketing, Market Access, Analytics, Legal, Quality, and Finance. How you will help ‘Create Possible’:

  • Build, evaluate and drive success of trade operations teams and corresponding channel strategies and initiatives across the Gilead Canada portfolio

  • Provide strategic oversight of channel operations from manufacturing to wholesale to patient, including specialty and online pharmacy partners, and patient support services

  • Lead the design and implementation of an overarching channel vision and strategy (across therapeutic areas) and define how they will enable success for patients

  • Manage all aspects of the legal and contracting process with distribution and patient support vendors that are key for the development of all channel strategic operations, including data and analytics insights and reporting

  • Identify strategic opportunities and negotiate contracts with specialty distribution and specialty pharmacy providers and maintain relationships at each outlet to support product lunch and lifecycle

  • Oversee supply chain operations including forecasts, 3PL, orders to cash and order fulfillment

  • Support the development and delivery of a governance model for the overarching Trade process and issue management process across all portfolios

  • Execute all Budgeting, Procurement and Financial Reconciliations to ensure adherence to contracts in place with third party vendors

  • Partner with Business Unit Directors, sales and marketing to proactively optimize channel strategy throughout the product lifecycle, and create opportunities to expand the trade channel and access support

  • Evaluate and monitor current customer/marketplace, key dynamics and policies, including parallel trade, in addition to key competitors and strategies from a channel and patient programs and services perspective

  • Work closely with legal as required to ensure all regulations and compliance measurers are managed appropriately in the context of trade partnerships.

  • Lead the Cross Functional Channel Team (Trade, Quality, CMC Regulatory, Patient Support, Brand and Legal) to ensure consistent channel performance.

  • Evaluate and lead crisis management capabilities across supply chain and key partners. 

  • Build and drive success across the Commercial Operations Team as a member of the Commercial Operations Leadership Team. 

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • 10+ years of related experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry and a BS or BA degree, including leadership experience

  • MBA or other advanced business degree desired. Fluency in English required

  • Fluency in French strongly preferred

  • 7+ years of previous experience in pharmaceutical or vendor trade relations and patient support programs

  • 2+ years in similar strategic role is required

  • Successful track record of mentoring and developing others, as well as leading through change

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead complex negotiations and contracting

  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian pharmaceutical trade channel, including PSP and Spec Pharma and hospital partners

  • Strong ability to lead and inspire change

  • Strong aptitude to work on complex problems in ambiguous and dynamic environments

  • Working knowledge of regulatory and trade laws for the pharmaceutical industry

  • Self-starter, highly motivated and accountable to deliver results at a very high standard

  • Strong project, time and financial management, analytical skills, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Adaptability and strong advocate for change, ability to influence internally and externally

  • Works well in a highly collaborative matrixed environment and cross-functional approach

  • Ability to execute with strong attention to detail and organizational skill
