Specific Responsibilities:
A summer research internship is available in the Device Development and Clinical Packaging Engineering department at the Foster City, CA, campus of Gilead Sciences. The candidate should be enrolled in an Undergraduate Program with a Major in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, or related discipline.
Essential Functions:
Under general supervision, the candidate will support drug delivery device design and development activities. The candidate will create and execute testing protocols and write associated reports, design and manufacture test fixtures to support device test method development, support human factors studies, develop specifications and bills of materials, work with vendors to deliver prototypes, author design control documentation, and collaborate with internal Gilead stakeholders. The candidate will be exposed to responsibilities in device engineering similar to that of an entry level engineer to get a real-life flavor of what a Device Engineering job in the pharmaceutical industry entails.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
Must be at least 18 years old
Enrolled in a graduate (Master of Science) in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, material science, or related field enrolled in a 4-year accredited US-based university/college
Good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are required
Strong technical writing skills
Proactive approach for supporting and managing projects
Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and other Microsoft applications
Must be enrolled full-time in the Fall Semester after completing the internship
Ability to complete 10-12 consecutive weeks between May and September
Must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination* prior to start of internship
