Intern - Project Management

As a Gilead Intern, you will contribute to high-impact meaningful projects that will not only further advance our company’s mission but will allow you to gain real world experience at one of the most innovative organizations in the world. The Portfolio Strategy, Management, and Operations (PSMO) department seeks to ensure Gilead makes informed investment decisions about internal and external pipeline opportunities by maintaining a systematic approach to team structure and leadership, governance, lifecycle management and Development portfolio management – including program status, portfolio long-range planning, resourcing needs and potential impact to long-term revenue. The Development Project Management team primarily focuses on providing strategic planning and project management support across Development, including the Clinical Data Science (CDS) function. In addition, the team also engages in and launches various cross-functional, novel initiatives aimed at capturing high-value business goals and transforming internal culture.


Responsibilities and Skills
The ideal candidate will have a background in biological or health sciences, business administration, project management, and a keen interest in the pharmaceutical industry. Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic are essential. The intern may help with: CDS-related projects requiring strong attention to details; strategic thinking and implementation of CDS-related initiatives; project planning and management of one or more cross-functional initiatives; supporting and driving innovative projects across Development.

Essential Duties and Job Functions
The candidate will be intimately involved in various functional areas and working groups, with aims to improve operational efficiencies, create new business values, or transform organizational culture within the CMO organization. The project management intern will work as part of a larger team with cross-functional skills and expertise, and may work on the following initiatives:
• Coordinate, manage and help implement new CDS initiatives based on novel Solve-a-thon initiative
• Assist in various project management activities within PSMO.
• Assist in change management effort with respect to implementing new Codelist process
• Assist in various strategic talent acquisition and/or career development initiatives
Employ business acumen, strategic thinking, and analytical skills to conceptualize new, high-value initiatives for the PSMO.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

• Graduate enrolled in Master of Business Administration (MBA) as full-time student
• Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, or Healthcare-related course of study preferred (not required)
• Strong academic credentials from a leading university
• Experience of devising and implementing business strategies involving quantitative analysis, conceptualization and communication of strategic solutions
• Superior problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure in a demanding environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional drive and commitment striving for excellence
• High level of agility, eager to develop new skills and areas of expertise
• Ability to complete 10-12 consecutive weeks between May and September
• Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred




Required Qualifications:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8
• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Masters/PhD program at an accredited US based university or college
• Must be a Graduate or Doctoral Student
• Must be enrolled in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internship
• Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between June and September
• Must be able to work at our Foster City site for the duration of the internship
• Must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination* prior to start of internship

Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite
• Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

• Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
• Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
